This is an interpreting report on a lecture given by Nora Volkow which is about “The Sleep-Deprived Human Brain”,held by Harvard University. The consecutive interpretation, from English to Chinese, was used to complete this practice. The translation materials contain the welcome speech and the speech part of the lecture, excluding the Q&A section. The topic of this lecture is a series of neurological changes in the animal and human brain with sleep deprivation, and proposes a new concept of the "glymphatic system ",which aims to emphasize that sleep is not only relevant to everyone, but also important in clinical interventions, behavioral interventions and scientific research. On the basis of Toury's Descriptive Translation Theory, the translator tries to do the consecutive interpretation from English to Chinese, and gives an analysis on the translation case,in order to explore the possibility of combining this theory with interpreting practice. The translation norms include: initial norms, preliminary norms and operational norms. The initial norms determine a translator's overall tendency of translating whether to adhere to the source norms or target norms or something between them. The preliminary norms determine the choice of the text to be translated. The operational norms determine the specifics. This report consists of five parts. The first part is mainly the description of the translation task. The second part tells details of Toury's Descriptive Translation Theory. The third part describes the preparation and translation process. The fourth part contains cases study of this translation based on the three norms of Toury's Descriptive Translation Theory. At last, the fifth part makes a conclusion about the translation practice.
