| In today’s society,with the increasing level of social competition,people are facing greater pressure in life,work and study,and greater pressure will lead to less sleep time.According to the 2022 White Paper on Exercise and Sleep,more than 300 million Chinese people have sleep disorders,and 27% of people in the world have sleep quality problems.From the data,although there are many people with sleep troubles,most people do not pay attention to it,let alone carry out scientific treatment.Under this social context,this translation practice selects chapter three and chapter four of Sleep Disorders and Sleep Deprivation—An Unmet Public Health Problem.As a popular science text,its translation needs to ensure scientific translation accuracy as well as consider the popularity and interesting.Boring and obscure translation should be avoided,so as to catch the reader’s eyeball and attract their reading interest,thus improve the readers’ acceptance,showing the effect of popular science text spreading scientific knowledge.In the light of pragmatic adaptation theory,this report intends to explore its application and significance in popular science E-C translation practice from the perspective of contextual correlates of adaptability,structure objects of adaptability,dynamics of adaptability and salience of the adaptation process.Faced with the problems of word meaning selection,analysis of long and difficult sentences,word order adjustment and passive sentences’ translation,translator adopted such translation methods as amplification,omission,conversion and annotation.The report aims to explore the application of the adaptation theory in popular science text translation. |
