The oratorio,Die Jahreszeiten,is a masterpiece written by the composer,Franz Haydn,in his later years.This work is regarded as the most outstanding oratorio of the whole classical period.Its libretto is based on a poem by English poet,James Thomas.The original poem depicts the four seasons of the natural world in a year.The musical images are developed along the lines of farmer Simon,Jane and young farmer Lucas.This thesis takes the choral work,Komm,holder Lenz,as the object of study and the conducting techniques its performance requires as its core.Through musical analysis and research on the conducting techniques for this piece,an advanced interpretation of the musical meaning of Die Jahreszeiten can be achieved and the style and characteristics of Haydn's oratorio can be grasped.The thesis is divided into three chapters.The first chapter includes the current state of research on the topic,the research methods used,the reasons for selecting this topic and the objectives of the study.It also includes the introduction of the composer,Haydn,and the oratorio,Die Jahreszeiten.The second chapter discusses the music analysis of Komm,holder Lenz.The third chapter discusses the research on the conducting techniques used in performing in Komm,holder Lenz.Through research of this topic,the author intends to probe conductors' understanding and interpretation of Komm,holder Lenz,to better grasp the the artistic characteristics of.Die Jahreszeiten,to demonstrate the convictions that the composer wanted to convey.
