A Preliminary Study On The Early Style And Performance Techniques Of Haydn Piano Sonata

Joseph Haydn--a musical giant of German nation,and a founder of a musical cultureera. Under the halo associated with symphony and string quartet created by him,Haydn’spiano sonata is possibly ignored by people.Whereas in the musical giant’s entire musicalcreation career,piano sonata ran through all of his musical creation, as a long river.There are3periods for his piano sonata,divided into early period, middle period,andlater period. Haydn’s early period piano sonata was created during a special period ofwestern music history,"pre-classical period".Multi aspects,such as movement structure,musical form structure，harmonic progression,application of musical texture,show thecharacteristics of musical creation in this period.Meantime,Haydn’s early periodkeyboard sonata is also a rudiment of his piano sonata creation.The thesis consists of three parts:Chapter one:Haydn’s keyboard musical creation,includes summary of Haydn’s life, versions of Haydn’s piano sonata and division ofcreation period. Chapter two: pre-classical style of Haydn’s musical creation, includesmusical creation characteristics of pre-classical period, creation characteristics ofkeyboard sonata, and its presentation in Haydn’s keyboard musical creation. Chapterthree: analysis for Haydn’s keyboard work "G major piano sonata"L.13Hob.XVI/6"created in the early period, includes movement structure, musicalform,harmonic,melodicrhythm,and application of musical texture. Finally it analyzesthe performance skills for the keyboard work,with respect to special rhythm styleperforming, forces control,special phrase touch key method,etc, in combination withauthor’s performing practical experience, to discover the performing characteristics ofpiano sonata in Haydn’s early period.The thesis expounds the era characteristics ofpre-classical period through research, discussing its impact on the field of keyboardsonata creation and especially on Haydn’s early period keyboard musical creation.Secondly,it researchs the musical texts and performance skills of the Haydn’s earlyperiod keyboard sonata work "G major piano sonata(L.13Hob.XVI/6)",to present itsmusical creation characteristics of Haydn’s early period by analyzing,and to achieve theaim of precise performance of Haydn’s early period musical style for performers.
