Casper David Friedrich, one of the most important painters of the romantic period in Germany, and one of the most important landscape painters of the 19 th century, deconstructed the motif of traditional landscape painting and,for the first century, gave us the modernity of visual art.Friedrich lived almost all of his life in Dresden, and as a landscape painter, unlike many of his contemporaries,he traveled far afield, and his footprints were almost never outside of Germany.Without spectacular visual wonders,he confers a meditative magic on the ordinary, and Even though few of his contemporaries in the public could understand his art,it blossomed into a spiritual echo and echo in later modern art. This thesis mainly studies the important motifs and formal characteristics of Friedrich's landscape art,as well as Orpheus' attitude, art as a way of exploring natural mystery, among in his works and hoping to find a clue to understand Friedrich's art.
