Situ Qiao Disaster Painting Research

The subject of this paper is The Refugees,which is a masterpiece of Situ Qiao.This paper is divided into three parts to carry on the elaboration of Situ Qiao's disaster painting.The first part focuses on the analysis of the content of The Refugees and the research on the artistic stage of disaster painting.The second part is the horizontal comparison between the works in the same period,which shows the life of victims.Comparing the differences between the works and the intentions of their authors,this paper clarifies the explorations made by Situ Qiao in his work The Refugees and also tries to explain the era orientation of his disaster painting.The third part starts with Fu Lei's criticism of Situ Qiao's disaster painting and the defense of Guo Moruo and other supporters.Basing on the debates between the two sides on the qualitative study of disaster painting,this paper attempts to make an objective evaluation of the exploration that Situ Qiao has done in his disaster painting and to trace back the meaning of Situ Qiao's work in his era.This is a basic research work and I do hope it can shed some light on the study of Situ Qiao's work in the future.
