A Study On Cyril Birch's Sinology Research Process And Influence

In the Sino-British literary and cultural communication,sinologists in which bear an important role in the media,are important research objects in the field of comparative literature.Especially,a group of professional sinologists in Europe and the United States grew up after the Second World War Europe showed more rational and accurate in specialization and academic than the older scholars,they were closer to the true face of Chinese culture,with great research value.Cyril Birch is a famous American sinologist,born in the UK and learn Chinese.He moved to the United States in 1960,has been active in the North American Chinese academy.He has a unique research perspective on his researching Chinese literature and training of thought,his research on Chinese literature achievements and his academic spirit are worthy of scholars to study.This chapter is divided into four chapters,the first chapter focuses on Cyril Birch's experience in United Kingdom,from the his study of the British Sinology background.and his cradle British University of London,in particular,as "the first one study Feng Menglong's works in the history of Western literature",to study the Birch's Chinese literature research activities in United Kingdom.Chapter 2 begins to analyze Cyril Birch's impact on the American Sinology after moving to the United States.In the second chapter,the paper analyzes the transformation of the literature in the early period of the United States and the translation of the Chinese classical literature and the Chinese literary genre,to study the influence of Cyril Birch on the American scholars in the early days of the United States.In the third chapter,we are try to study Birch's reputable period in the United States Sinolosy.His work Peach Blossom Fan and Peony Pavilion,as the representative of the translation of Chinese classical drama,try to explore why his works are "parts of the great cultural events of the twentieth century".The fourth chapter study a collection of the classic reading of the Ming Dynasty Scenes for Mandarins and the translation of the Chinese classical tragedy Mistress&Maid(Jiaohongji),to study his works in the period of East and West academic exchanges frequently.Therefore,this paper chooses Cyril Birch's Chinese literature as the research topic,through the analysis of his Chinese literature research and his main research results,analyze the contribution of his main academic research,and consider Birch's inspiration to the study and interpretation of Chinese literature.
