Chaoshan dialect is a sub-dialect of minnan dialect, and Chaoyang dialect is a branch of Chaoshan dialect.Chaoshan dialect phonetics research started early, and has received many achievements. However,it mainly focuses on shantou dialect and chaozhou dialect, while other regional dialects, such as Chaoyang dialect, huilai dialect and jieyang dialect, have received little attention and few studies.Zhang shengyu once made a systematic analysis and discussion on the phonetics of Chaoyang dialect, but later few comprehensive studies on Chaoyang dialect were made, and the phonetic evolution was a blank. This paper investigates the phonetic features of contemporary Chaoyang dialect, sorts out the phonetic system of Chaoyang dialect, compares it with the phonetic system of Chaoyang dialect of the 1980sand Guangyun, analyzes the phonetic features of Chaoyang dialect and the phonetic evolution in the past 40 years, and probes into the phenomenon of literary and colloquial readings of characters in Chaoyang dialect.Compared with Chaoyang dialect in the 1980 s,the consonant of Chaoyang dialect today presented an evolution characteristics as[z]>[z],[dz].The consonant[z]presents the characteristics of the soft compound. As the heavy soft continued, the consonant[z]is likely to be completely replaced by[dz]initials, its evolution process is:[z]>[z]?[dz]>[dz].In the respect of vowels, compared with 40 years ago,Chaoyang dialect increases[?]and[w].A significant number of nasal finals ru tones disappeared. The disappearance of the nasalized vowels reflects the gradual simplification of vowel system in Chaoyang dialect in the past 40 years and the trend of the convergence to the common language of modern Chinese, which may be influenced by the popularization of mandarin. In terms of intonation, there are still eight types of intonation unchanged. The ancient sub-voiced initials read the yin tone and the ancient voiced initials to read the shang tone, reflecting the close relationship between the shang tone and qu tone words in the Middle Ages.Literary and colloquial readings in Chaoyang dialect are systematic. The rich pronunciation of literary and colloquial readings reflect the characteristics of Chaoyang dialect in different levels, different historical stages and different regions.Due to the social and economic development and the language contact between different regions, the number of literary and colloquial readings is declining, but it still remains relatively complete on the whole.Through the analysis, the changes of literary and colloquial readings in Chaoyang dialect in the recent 40 years may be related to the declining influence of Fujian fujian dialect, the promotion of mandarin, the decline of traditional Chaoshan literary forms and the competition between literary and colloquial readings.
