This paper is a practice report on the Chinese-English whispering interpreting of the lecture of The Rise of the British Middle Class in the Nineteenth Century. This paper reviews the overall translation process in the light of the Interpretive Theory of the Paris School. The school holds that translation is the interpretation of the original meaning, which is the translator's interpretation of the original meaning through the complement of linguistic symbols and his own cognition;what the translator should pursue is not the equivalence of the linguistic units but the equivalence of the original meaning or effect. The theory comes directly out of the practice of interpretation, and its views have unique significance for translation studies. In this report, the author analyzes the interpreting strategies, interpreting methods, and processing methods of long and difficult sentences in the process of translation. And she also discusses the corresponding solutions to the problems arising in the interpretation process based on the Interpretative Theory. This report is mainly divided into four parts. The first part focuses on the description of the interpreting task. The second part is a description of the process of this interpreting practice. The third part, guided by the theory of the interpretive school, analyzes the translation strategies and methods adopted in interpreting. Finally, the author summarizes the attainment and experience of this interpretation practice, and points out the shortcomings of this research. The author hopes that through the practice, the author will be more skilled in the use of interpretation strategies, improve the level of her interpretation and provide some experience for the future interpreting practice.
