An Analysis Of Giuseppe Castiglione's Flower-and-Bird Painting From The Perspective Of The Western Style Trend In Ch'ing Court

An impactful influence which western painting has on Chinese flower-and-bird painting caused by the painting practice done by a missionary painter in Chinese court in Qing Dynasty.Giuseppe Castiglione,the Italian missionary painter has been the most typical representative since then.My target is to analyze the collision between western art and the Chinese flower-and-bird painting,synchronously to analyze the impact on the Chinese flower-and-bird painting brought by western art.Researching the art of Giuseppe Castiglione and analyzing flower-and-bird painters who were his peers does me a favor to reach my target.Giuseppe Castiglione is an important figure in the history of cultural exchanges between East and West in modern times.The particularity caused by his identity of a western missionary and that of his art combining Chinese painting with Western painting in the history of Chinese painting,as well as his dominant role in the Ch'ing court painting,which enabled him to contribute a lot to the East-West cultural exchanges.This paper analyses his representative works of flower-and-bird painting in Immortal Blossoms in an Everlasting Spring.Giuseppe Castiglione created western paintings with Chinese painting materials and Chinese aesthetics.This paper will tell how to learn his way of exploring the art objectively and dialectically.The second reform of fusion involving Chinese flower-and-bird painting and western painting,and his subtle influence on the Chinese flower-and-bird painting in modern times will be presented as well.
