The translation report is written on basis of a translating project that features documents about the construction of the Barangaroo Reserve,a landmark park in Sydney,Australia.Located in the western part of Sydney's Central Business District,Barangaroo was formerly a 22-hectare container terminal that has now been transformed into the city's emerging development zone, the new international financial center and the headland park.Documents covered under the present translation project offered, from different perspectives, some detailed accounts about the construction process of the headland park.Given that these documents have shed some new lights concerning the latest ideas, technologies as well as practical knowhows about urban development and scenic spot planning,it is especially worthwhile to translate them into Chinese so that more people, both scholars and practitioners in the field, can learn something from them.Texts covered by the present translation project are taken from the American Landscape Architecture, the ArchitectureAU and the Sydney Morning Herald, and fall respectively into different discourse categories, such as academic papers, technical reports and news stories. In line with a guiding principle that prioritizing on "being faithful to the original author's communicative purposes",I,the translator as well as the writer of the present translation report, have consistently strived to select linguistic styles that best meet Chinese readers' expectations in terms of reading habits, thinking patterns, and aesthetical judgments,so as to make sure the translated texts read authentic, concise and vivid. This translation report will focus on three aspects in its analysis:vocabulary, sentence and text.Purpose-selected examples shall be cited in the report to elaborate on the strategies and methods adopted during the process and the rationales behind the selection of such strategies and methods. It is hoped that findings drawn from the in-depth analysis shall provide some meaningful implications for future translators working on texts of similar subject content or similar linguistic styles.
