This translation project is authorized by Forest Economics and Development Research Center,National Forestry Bureau. The original text is excerpted from Chapter 4 of National Forestry Policy. The chapter title is Making Room for Forests and Food Security.Seven countries are selected in this chapter as case studies to show efforts in forestry and agriculture protection:Gambia,Ghana,Tunisia,Georgia,Viet Nam,Chile and Costa Rica. The original text consists of a number of terminologies and nouns, and the sentence structures are well-organized and arranged.Based on the translation project, the author found that the key to word translation is the choice of meaning, addition and deletion, word conversion;while the key to sentence translation is the muti-branched structures, passive voice, long and difficult sentences. This report is divided into four parts:the brief introduction, the translation process, the case study and the summary of this translation project.By conducting this translation project,a lot of knowledge on forestry and translation techniques are accumulated, and hopefully, these experience in translation gained through this project can provide some advice to translators of texts concerning forestry and food protection. |
