This article begins with a historical review of the light and shadow expression techniques of Chinese painting. From the light and shadow in Chinese traditional painting to the introduction of foreign light painting techniques in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and the germination of light and shadow consciousness in the early 20 th century, the light and shadow language was gradually integrated and absorbed by the explorers. In the contemporary era,the awareness of light and shadow has been accepted by most artists, and the light and shadow are perfectly integrated with the traditional Chinese aesthetics, and the artistic conception is shaped by light and shadow. This article divides the works of these artists into three categories: one is direct representation of light and shadow under objective vision;the other is light and shadow to highlight time and space;the third is the halo effect of subjective consciousness. These attempts to introduce various light and shadow representation techniques into the picture, reflecting the artist's unique painting language, and also opened up more possibilities for the expression of Chinese painting. Finally, the article specifically analyzes the application of light and shadow techniques in my graduation works, starting from the three stages of conception, composition and color. This article introduces two works: First,"Hanshan Bell" depicts the night scene of the Hanshan Temple on the New Year's Day;second, the comic strip "Autumn Line" depicts the light and shadow changes in the natural world at different times during the fall.In the creation, the light and shadow performance is not the reproduction of light and shadow in the simple objective world, but the re-creation of adding more subjective consciousness;breaking the bondage of a single light source, after repeated training and honing, the light source is split into several scattered light sources to make the picture More decorative;not only the atmosphere in the natural landscape, but also through the high-staining method of the figure to enhance the existence and feeling of light. Thus, the picture is filled with a strong and harmonious light, and the practice and application of light and shadow techniques in their own creations is completed.
