As the first African-American female writer winning the Nobel Prize for literature,Toni Morrison is perceived as one of the most influential writers in American contemporary history and her first-published novel The Bluest Eye has received extensive attention.Compared with previous academic studies, this dissertation attempts to make exhaustive analysis of the heroine Pecola in the aspect of her survival predicament, its causes and corresponding introspection on her survival predicament.Meanwhile, the author adopts Freudian psychoanalytical theories as a main theoretical basis, which explicitly analyzes Pecola 's psychic disarray in the course of internalization of values, and probes into the development as well as the formation of her survival predicament.Proper application of Freud's psychoanalysis conduces to a better interpretation of the heroine's mental world, making exhaustive analyses of the survival predicament of black females, and further probing into the substantial issues behind such situation and corresponding solutions. As the novel proceeds,it can be apparently deduced that the heroine does have certain mental problems, which greatly affects her normal deportment. Thus,in the hope of enlarging the research realm, the author will start this research by applying Freud's psychoanalysis theories, which mainly includes defense mechanism and personality structure. In the hope of better understanding Pecola's survival predicament,it is of practical significance to have an exhaustive analysis of its various causes and specific solutions from psychoanalytic perspective. In essence, this paper strives to reveal the significance of the black cultural preservation, black compatriots' unity and black community's self identity based on the psychoanalysis of the heroine Pecola.Chapter one focuses on the psychoanalytic studies of Pecola, which basically includes her self-negation,anxiety and neural symptoms. The causes of Pecola's survival predicament in chapter two discusses social and cultural impacts, parental estrangement and the faultiness of her personality structure.Lastly, chapter three probes into substantial introspection for Pecola's,or rather, the black community's survival predicament. Her irreversible misfortune is perceived as the epitome of the entire black community, which deserves social attention and support. To avoid Pecola's misfortune, the author appeals the return of the black racial confidence.Meanwhile, they should acknowledge the racial differences between the two races in pursuit of racial concordance.Ultimately, the author emphasizes the importance of familial education. An individual's healthy personality is closely associated with parental love.
