This paper compares and studies the current situation of Chinese and Japanese studies on The Outsider,with a view to combing and summarizing the study of The Outsider in the two countries on the previous studies.Through the comparison and analysis of the research status of the two countries,this paper explores the similarities,differences and originality in the study of The Outsider between China and Japan.It also analyses the reasons for the different research status of the two countries.The introduction part of this paper expounds the important value and significance of history of scholarship research in literary research firstly,then reviews and combs history of scholarship research on Camus’ novel in China.This part also points out that the current research on history of scholarship only reviews of Camus’ studies in China,while the exploration of the history of scholarship in Japan or the comparison of history of scholarship between China and Japan are basically blank.This paper’s value is introducing the research situation of Camus’ novel in Japan and making a comparative analysis of the current research between China and Japan,which will provide a reference for the future study of Camus’ novel in China.The first chapter mainly introduces the translation and the history of scholarship on the research of Camus’ novel in China and Japan.The first and second sections take the time as the longitude and focus on the importance translations and papers in the research process.Through these to grasp the trend of translation and the research turn of Camus’ novel in China and Japan.The second and third chapters of this paper focus on The Outsider,which is themost representative of Camus’ phased thoughts.By analyzing and comparing the similarities,differences and originality to grasp the characteristics of the research of Chinese and Japanese Camus’ novel more specifically,carefully and.deeply.The second chapter explores the similarities between the two countries in terms of “absurd narration”from the perspectives of content,plot,language style,grammatical tense and narration.The third chapter compares the differences between China and Japan in the study of“close reading” in The Outsider.This paper compares the research route,research direction,research method and research emphasis of the close reading of Chinese and Japanese to reveal the research differences between the two countries and the blind areas of China’s current research.The fourth chapter analyses the reasons for similarities and differences.of the research of The Outsider between China and Japan.Generally speaking,both countries pay attention to the holistic characteristics of Camus’ creation and the “absurd philosophy” conveyed by The Outsider.In terms of specific research methods,China pays more attention to philosophical criticism of The Outsider,while Japan pays more attention to focus on the inside of the text,and digs deeper and deeper into the text.The evolution of history of scholarship,the consciousness of writers and the influence of social and cultural trends make the two countries’ research consistently.Japan is influenced by the aesthetic of “material sorrow” and “functional” and China is influenced by the thought of “spiritual” and “writings are for conveying truth”,which make the two countries’ specific research differently.Taking Japan as the “other”,this paper makes an insight into the “blind area” in the study of Camus’ novels in China,so as to achieve mutual understanding,mutual proof and complementarity between the two countries.Furthermore,it can absorb excellent achievement of civilization,promote the development of Chinese academy,and provide a useful “outside the box”.
