The Absence And Presence Of Coordinate Mark

Based on Cognitive Linguistic,Functional Grammar and linguistic typology,the paper is aiming at investigating the absence and presence of coordinate mark from the phrasal and sentential level by statistics,description,analysis,explanation and so on.On the one hand,this article argues that there are some relationships between coordinate mark and the syntactic position.Coordinate mark is easily present in the position of subject and object,and is easily absent in the position of adverbial and complement from the phrasal level.Furthermore,the most typical feature is that predicative coordinate phrases can be situated in the position of adverbial and complement.Nouns are often distributed in the subject and object positions with the strong referential meaning.And the stronger referential meaning is,the more easily appeared coordinate mark can be.However,verbs and adjectives are restricted by different syntactic positions.The stronger declarative meaning is,the more easily faded coordinate mark can be.In addition,if coordinate phrases are embedded deeply,coordinate mark is more easily concealed.Besides,the absence and presence of coordinate marks are affected by the principle of semantic proximity,the emphasis on pragmatics,typical category theory to some extent.On the other hand,this paper also mentions that parallel complex sentences can be classified into some categories based on the modern Chinese.Some of them tend to use coordinate mark separately,whereas some choose to use coordinate mark in pairs.In addition,coordinate mark can not only highlight the parallel relations in the adjacent sentences,but also strengthen the attitudes and feelings of speakers.Besides,there are some relationships between Chinese parataxis and the absence and presence of coordinate mark.Finally,the thesis mainly introduces that with some other factors including language style,rhythm and the short-period memory capacity can also influence the absence and presence of coordinate mark.This paper hopes to explore the absence and presence of coordinate mark,and clarify their regulation,so as to help foreign students grasp coordinate phrases morequickly and enhance the teaching effect in teaching Chinese as a Second Language.
