Chinese verbs are the important research subject for the study of Chinese grammar, while transitivity is also a significant linguistic category. Thus, the study of Chinese transitivity is always the research focus.Previously, there are scholars who classify Chinese verbs into transitive and intransitive verbs. However, the standard for the classification is still a controversial problem.Meanwhile, according to a certain standard to classify Chinese verbs, researchers find out that some Chinese verbs could be classified into transitive and intransitive verbs, but there are still some other words which could be both, which cannot be reasonably explained. Therefore, with regard to the problem, the paper focuses on the analysis of Chinese transitive-and-intransitive verbs,(CTIV for the abbreviation)from the cognitive perspective.Profiling is a basic concept. And this thesis employs Profiling to analyze the classification of Chinese transitive and intransitive verbs, and Chinese transitive-and-intransitive verbs.First, the paper provides a classification criteria for Chinese verbs from cognitive perspective, using The Usage Dictionary of the Chinese Verbs as its data base.Second, the thesis focuses on the further classification of CTIV according to six processes in transitivity system. The research suggests that there is asymmetry in CTIV,and the number of CTIV in Material process>Mental Process> Behavioral Process> Verbal Process. And there is no verb in Relational Process and Existential Process. This thesis mainly discusses the classification of Chinese verbs and CTIV,hoping to provide an insightful way to understand and use the Chinese verbs.
