Research on Theory and Practice of Teaching:Special Issues is written by Professor Chen Xiaoduan, the Dean of the College of Education in Shaanxi Normal University. This book,as an academic writing published by China Social Sciences Press in 2007 and one of the 2015 Academic Translation Projects of Shaanxi Normal, mainly introduces the updated teaching concepts and the focus shift of contemporary teaching. It also attaches greater emphasis to the teaching reflection on theoretical and practical issues.Only in these respects, therefore, are his book significant and instructive at all. This translation report, based on the selected Chapter Three of this book as its source text, attempts to employ the hermeneutic motion theory advanced by George Steiner, one of the representative figures advocating the hermeneutics,to illustrate and interpret the whole translation process. Then a conclusion will be drawn that academic translation also needs translator to give play to his or her subjectivity in the course of translation, which,in return, would evidently prove the significance and applicability of Steiner's hermeneutic motion theory in this translation practice. This report,as a summary and conclusion of the translation practice, includes the following five parts. The first chapter describes the translation task in detail, including its background, significance, text characteristics, requirements and thesis structure. The second part gives a description of the whole translation process, including the preparation before translation, the translation process and the proofreading work as well as the quality supervision. The third chapter primarily introduces the theoretical framework of this report, including the development of hermeneutics, the translation techniques closely related to it as well as its applicability in this practice. The fourth part is the main body of this report, which takes six translation techniques related to the hermeneutic motion theory as practical methods to represent and analyze the close connection between this theory and the practice in detail and in depth. The last chapter is the summary of this translation practice which includes the experience and lessons learned from this translation practice, translation shortcomings and problems as well as the future expectations.
