Under the guidance of national strategies like "One Belt,One Road","Going Out",Chinese academic translation has gained significant attention, but that of monographs on education and teaching takes a small portion, which is not conducive to the exchanges on education among countries, thus hindering the development and application of teaching theories. Therefore, through the translation practice of Chinese academic translation project in Shaanxi Normal University Research on Theory and Practice of Teaching:Special Issues, the translator can probe into the translation techniques in translating teaching and educational works in accordance with "functional equivalence" theory proposed by Eugene A.Nida,in order to provide the reference for the translation of educational academic monographs.Research on Theory and Practice of Teaching:Special Issues is written by Chen Xiaoduan,a professor in Tin Ka Ping Institute of Education in Shaanxi Normal University. As the source text in this practice, chapter 7 in the book mainly includes the commentary and comparison of representative schools of teaching thought in modern western countries. As an academic monograph,it features the objective and accurate language and a large number of professional terms.Due to the differences between Chinese and English, the translator has encountered many difficulties in the translation process. At the lexical level, the proper conversion of Chinese category words, multiple verbs, and repeated words poses a challenge for the translator. At the syntactic level, the translator has difficulty in analyzing and translating the long and complicated sentences, including sentences with multiple attributes, loose sentences with multiple subjects and sentences with multiple predicates. At the textual level, the difficulty lies in how to reproduce the internal logical structure of the original text and make the translation in the consistent style.Based on Nida's "functional equivalence" theory, the translator applies appropriate translation techniques in order to realize functional equivalence between the target and source texts through analyzing the differences between English and Chinese. At the lexical level, the translation techniques like conversion, amplification and omission are applied to solve the lexical differences between Chinese and English,so the translation characterizes the accurate and authentic words. At the syntactic level, the translation techniques like division and combination, restructuring and reordering are applied so that the translation can not only accurately convey the meaning of the source text but also conform to the expression habits of the target language. At the textual level, various cohesive devices are applied to keep the consistent style and logical structure.Through the translation practice, the translator has profounder understanding on the transformation of the connotation meaning, order and logic between Chinese and English languages.Meanwhile, she recognizes the importance of the translators'rigorous attitudes towards translation. As for the translation of academic monographs,it pursues the accuracy of the conveyed information and the rigorous logical structure so as to share the consistent style.
