Research On Chinese Euphemism About Fertility

Chinese fertility euphemisms are terms intentionally created and used by means of metonymy and metaphor,which is used in order to adapt to traditional cultural habit,meet the social needs of members of society,and avoid making people feeling unhappy rather than pregnancy or childbirth when expressing the meaning of fertility related to maternity or newborn baby.Based on the basic theories of linguistics,the article analyzes fertility euphemisms of different semantic types and diachronic changes in different periods according to combing synchronic description and diachronic research,and explores their structural rationales,causes and cultural views,in order to inrich the research results of euphemism and contribute to the development of contemporary linguistics.The article researches fertility euphemisms produced in three stages of the women's reproductive process,which are divided by time order.For example,the article researches the Chinese fertility euphemisms related to pregnancy,which is meaning before childbirth,by making a general classification,mainly describing the body shape of pregnant women,pregnancy reaction and implied meaning.Meanwhile,the article researches the diachronic and overall rheology of Chinese fertility euphemisms before,during and after childbirth,the latter two of which separately include the upcoming production and the separation of the fetus from the mother into independent individuals,baby sex and maternal confinement.Based on the theory,the article analyzes and explores the rationale,causes and cultural manifestations of Chinese fertility euphemism.Among them,the article analyzes the construction rationale of Chinese fertility euphemism from metaphor and metonymy aspects according to theories of cognitive linguistics.Most of the collected Chinese fertility euphemisms are produced by metonymy.Meanwhile,the article analyzes the causes of Chinese fertility euphemisms from the perspectives of social productivity,national culture and political concept by cultural psychology and sociolinguistics.The Chinese fertility euphemism can partly reflect the cultural psychology and ideological concept of the Han nationality in dealing with this important life event for language is the window of national culture and psychology.According to the research of the Chinese fertility euphemism,we can see the speaker's psychology of avoiding jealousy,avoiding the evil and seeking new change.
