An English-Chinese Translation Report On Deep Dark(Excerpts)

This report is based on the English-Chinese translation of detective novel Deep Dark,written by the famous American detective novelist Laura Griffin,published in 2016.Deep Dark tells a typical serial killing case that the murderer committed the crime by using the internet loopholes to get personal information.It is a highly readable novel with complete story,rigorous logic,exquisite language description and tortuous plot.The novel Deep Dark is a contractual translation work of Yilin magazine,and my supervisor signed a contract with the magazine in May 2018.According to the contract requirements,the translation will be submitted in May 2019.As the scheduled translation of Yilin magazine,the quality of the translation must be guaranteed to meet the standard of accuracy and fluency.Meanwhile,the translation should have the characteristics of popular literature and meet the aesthetic requirements of domestic readers.In the process of translation,I noticed that a large number of computer network terms are involved in the text,these terms are highly professional,and make it harder to understand and translate the novel.Improper translation may cause obstacles in the understanding of the novel for readers.Therefore,I focused on the computer network terms translation,discussed how to accurately translate the meaning of computer network terms in the novel and adopted corresponding translation strategies to make it both easy to understand and professional,to provide reference and inspiration for the detective novel in the future.This report is divided into four parts.The first part is task description,which mainly introduces the background and significance of translation,as well as the novel and author.The second part is process description,mainly including preparation work,initial translation,post-translation proofreading and the problems encountered in translation.The third part is the case analysis on the translation of computer network terms in Deep Dark.Firstly,I give a brief introduction to Skopos theory and computer network terms.And then,combined with the skopos rule and fidelity rule of Skopos theory,I discuss how to accurately translate computer network terms by choosing appropriate translation strategies,and make sure the translation is accurate and fluent.The last part is the conclusion,it is the author's summary of the whole translation process,and also sums up the demerits of the translation.
