Mo Yan,a famous contemporary Chinese writer has written 11 full-length novels and 80 plus short stories. After the publication of Red Sorghum,he published a series of works in succession, which show extraordinary talents on the international literary stage.Translations of Mo Yan's works in different languages enable him to enjoy a high reputation abroad. And studies on these translations are also popular among numerous scholars worldwide. The Wind on the Island is a short novel written by Mo Yan in his early days. This novel, featuring territorial dialect, conjointly contains vulgarity and nobleness and radiates literary glamour of humorousness and vividness with plain words. And this novel has no English translation as well as research result combined with reception aesthetics at present, which has a relatively broad research space and rich aesthetic values.Studying on translation strategies in the translation process of this story from the perspective of reception aesthetics can add a reference for practices of literary translation and studies on translation strategies of Mo Yan's works.Achieving the receptive effect and the function of translation is the fundamental tenet for translators to choose translation strategies.Based on conveying the essence of the original text, the translation strategy is closely bound up with the reader's reading expectation. It requires that translator adopt a form that is easy to be accepted by target readers, and truly transmits the characteristics of the original pattern and content. Therefore, this study starts from the practice of translation, uses the main theoretical viewpoints of reception aesthetics to deeply analyze the text from the following aspects: firstly, the study chooses appropriate translation strategies to meet the expectation horizon of the target readers from perspectives of readers' values, social and cultural background, aesthetic experience etc.;secondly, after considering the reader's expectation, selects opportune translation strategies to achieve the fusion of the original text and the reader's horizon;finally, keeps the indeterminacy and meaning blanks of the original text and summons readers' reading interests andimagination based on the response-inviting structure of the text. There are rich and various researches on the translation strategies of Mo Yan's works at home and abroad, but still a lot of research space in reception aesthetics awaits discovery. From the perspective of reception aesthetics, this study takes The Wind on the Island as an example, analyzes the characteristics of the text language according to the reader-centered principle, selects translation strategies to meet the reader's aesthetic consciousness as much as possible. It is hoped that this study provides a new perspective for studies on translation strategies of Mo Yan's works, and presents a reference for the combination of reception aesthetics and literary translation.
