The English Translation Of Chinese Modifiers

This translation practice is the English translation of The Study on the Integration of Folk Customs between the Inner Mongolian and the Han Nationalities in the Migration Process of Zouxikou written by Professor Duan Youwen.The selected original text is the third and the fourth chapters of this book,which focuses on the integration of migrants' survival condition and cultural psychology.It brings not only the real migration history but also the national spirits and profound epoch significance to readers.The discussion object of this thesis is the modifiers in the translation examples.In the process of English and Chinese communication,as an important kind of language component,the modifiers have different classes and rich meaning,therefore,this kind of words is an indispensable part of translation learning and practice that cannot be ignored.More importantly,treating modifiers as the discussion focus of this translation practice has referential significance for author's future translation practice.Based on the previous study of scholars,the thesis contrasts,analyzes the translation examples of the modifiers and summarizes some translation strategies used in the translation.Four parts constitutes this whole thesis: the first part is the description of task including the introduction of selected original text,the significance of the thesis and the theoretical basis;the second part is the introduction of the translation process;the third part is the most important part of the thesis including the analysis on the translation examples.This part talks about the English translation of Chinese attribute modifiers and the English translation of Chinese adverbial modifiers;and the fourth part is the conclusion of the thesis: The Chinese attribute modifiers can be translated into prepositive attribute modifiers or postpositive attribute modifiers;the Chinese adverbial modifiers can be translated into adverbial modifiers at the beginning of a sentence,adverbial modifiers in a sentence,or adverbial modifiers at the endof a sentence.
