The Translation Of Modifiers In Architectural English

This report is written on the translation of Architecture & Detail(the 2016 5th and 2017 3rd version).The translator illustrates the whole translation practice comprehensively though four parts,including task description,process description,case analysis and conclusion.Architecture & Detail is a special architectural text,which falls into the category of scientific and technological style.The text uses formal language,including many long sentences and complex sentences.The main difficulty encountered by the translator in this practice is the translation of modifiers.In the case analysis part,the translator analyzes the translation of prepositional phrases,appositives,participles and relative clauses as modifiers and elaborates the translation methods and techniques used by the translator.Too many modifiers mean a large amount of information,which is difficult to express accurately and smoothly in target language during the translation process.In the cases,the translation methods the translator mainly used to solve those translation difficulties are literal translation and free translation,and the translation techniques are cutting,syntactical readjustment,rearrangement of word order,reconstructing,omission and addition.The results show that these translation methods and techniques can indeed reduce the translation traces.The translator puts forward her own translation thoughts and methods for the translation of modifiers in special texts through this report and hopes this report will provide some references and inspirations for the translator and other people while translating similar texts in the future.
