This report is based on a translation practice. And it mainly focuses on the tenth chapter to the fifteenth chapter of The Last American Frontier,a history work written by the famous American historian Frederic Logan Paxson. The book describes the history of the changes of American western frontier regions and the fluxes in the relationship between whites and Indians in the process of the US government's continued colonization to the west.In the process of translating it into Chinese, the author found that the translation of demonstrative pronouns was a difficult point, which had a very important impact on the context. If not handled properly,it would easily affect the overall coherence of the article,as well as the expression of the style of the original text and readers' understanding of the original text. All of these require translators to consider their translation methods on the base of fully understanding their referential meanings. Therefore, this paper probes into the strategies of Chinese translation of demonstrative pronouns from the perspective of the differences between Chinese and English demonstrative pronouns. This report contains five chapters. The first chapter includes the background, significance and contents of the translation project. The second chapter introduces the task process, including the preparation before translating, the translation process and the revision after translation. The third chapter presents the differences of English and Chinese demonstrative pronouns and discussing the difficulties in translating The Last American Frontier. The fourth chapter explores the translation strategies of demonstrative pronouns in English-Chinese translation based on case studies. The fifth chapter is a conclusion that summarizes the lessons that the author have learned from the project.
