The Translation Report Of Collection Of Shanxi Folklore

Local culture has its unique regional cultural characteristics because of its unique historical relics,cultural forms,social customs,production and life style,etc.Therefore,it is very important to master the distinctive cultural words and translate them accurately in the translation of texts with unique regional characteristics.This paper is a Chinese-English translation report of Collection of Shanxi folklore with typical local cultural characteristics.In this report,the author focuses on the exploration and analysis of the translation method of this kind of words with strong national characteristics,that is,culture-bound words.The so-called "culture-bound words",refers to those words with unique cultural flavor which have been infiltrated by historical and cultural factors for a long time and are the most representative cultural products produced under different cultural backgrounds.Because culture-bound words have their own unique cultural connotations,it is difficult to achieve cultural equivalence in the process of translation,so it is very difficult to translate them.This practical report attempts to make a classification of culture-bound words in local culture,explore more suitable translation criteria from the angle of foreignization and domestication,explain and interpret them by using multiple and comprehensive translation strategies,and try to achieve the equivalence of text information as far as possible.Culture-bound words is a cultural product with unique historical and cultural characteristics formed for a long time in a specific regional environment,so it has obvious different cultural imprints,which is closely related to its specific regional environment and national customs.When we translate,if we can take into account this national characteristic,under the principle of "faithfulness,expressiveness,elegance",we can show more unique cultural connotations of the source language.So that the target language readers can better appreciate and feel the characteristics and essence of the source culture,then the translation will be more authentic.Therefore,it is of great significance to explore a suitable method for translating cultural-bound words.This practical report mainly focuses on the translation methods of the proper nouns,folk proverbs,as well as idioms of cultural-bound words in such local culture text.In this report,I will make relative example analyses and explorations in combination with the translated texts of the regional culture.By summing up the practical experience of translating such texts and drawing on the research results of relevant subjects,this paper aims to explore some methods suitable for the translation of cultural-bound words in such texts,and to make several generalizations of the corresponding cultural-bound words in the context of the different types of translation strategies.Among these cultural-bound words,proper nouns are mainly translated by literal translation,free translation,interpretation and other conventional translation strategies,and appropriate translation methods are selected according to different contexts.The translation of folk proverbs is mainly through free translation,adopting the strategy of making up for cultural vacancies as far as possible to make up for their own cultural characteristics,and its emphasis of translation is on the similarity in spirit rather than in form;The translation of idioms requires the application of cultural background compensation principle and the use of interpretive translation strategies to improve the understanding of cultural images.
