The purpose of this paper reflects the current situation of English extracurricular reading in ordinary junior high schools by investigating and studying English extracurricular reading in the ordinary junior high school,and puts forward to relevant suggestions from teachers' teaching.This paper tries to solve the following problems:(1)What is the current learning situation of English extracurricular reading for ordinary junior high school students?(2)What is the current teaching situation of English extracurricular reading for ordinary junior high school teachers?(3)How to improve the status quo of English extracurricular reading of ordinary junior high school students from the perspective of teachers?In order to solve the above problems,this study was carried out in a junior high school in Tianjin through questionnaires and interviews.The school is a typical ordinary junior high school From the first to the third grade of the junior high school,440 students and 5 in-service English teachers were selected to conduct an investigation and study on the current situation of junior high school students' extracurricular English reading.Then the corresponding conclusions and suggestions are drawn through the data analysis of the questionnaire and the corresponding supplements of interviewsThe results of this study show that the current situation of extracurricular reading in ordinary junior high schools is not optimistic.Although students believe that extracurricular reading plays a positive role in improving their English proficiency,due to lack of guidance,students are not interested in extracurricular reading,there are many problems in extracurricular reading,such as utilitarian reading purpose,less reading time,lack of reading strategies,lack of planning and reflection.Although teachers have a positive attitude towards extracurricular reading,but due to the great pressure of teaching and the lack of experience in guiding extracurricular reading,their guidance to students' extracurricular reading is mainly to recommend English extracurricular reading materials.Therefore,the author from the teacher's teaching,puts forward to relevant suggestions,and hopes to solve these problems.Finally,the author hopes this paper can arouse the attention of teachers and scholars to extracurricular reading in ordinary high schools.
