The translation practice is conducted under the guidance of functional equivalence theory by Eugene A.Nida.The translation material of the report is taken from the book Chinese Historical Geography for Children. It is not only a children's book, but also a good book helpful to understand Chinese historical geography. The author of this book is Tang Xiaofeng,a famous historical geographer. In this translation practice,Chapter 4 of the book is chosen as the translation material. The original text gives a vivid description of the relationship between the environment and culture. And its language is concise, accurate and logical.Besides, since the source text is originally written for children, the simple and vivid language style of the source text should be reproduced in the translation. The overall framework of the translation report is as follows.Four chapters are included in the translation report.Chapter 1 is task description including the background, introduction of the original and the significance.Chapter 2 involves translation process which mainly includes pre-translation preparation, major difficulties during the translation and post-translation proofreading and revising.Chapter 3 is case analysis, which is the core of the translation report.Guided by Eugene A.Nida's functional equivalence theory, the translator analyzes specific translation cases from the lexical level, the syntactic level and the textual level, trying to explore the equivalence between the target text and the source text.Chapter 4 is a summary of this report, which consists of the translator's reflections and something acquired during the translation practice.
