Edward IV was an important king at the end of the middle ages.During his twenty-three years on the throne, many changes took place in every aspect of British society and great progress was made in economy. The king and parliament formulated and implemented a series of economic policies, which promoted the rise of local businessmen, the leap development of wool textile industry and the transformation of export structure, and also had a long-term and profound impact on the development of British economy. In Britain in the second half of the 15th century, the monarchy was consolidated, the economy was gradually improved after a long recession, and business was increasingly active. This paper is divided into three chapters to study the economic policies of Edward?.The first chapter mainly discusses the overall situation of England in the 15th century and Edward ?'s contribution to the development of this period. After the reign of Edward IV,a series of political and financial reform measures were adopted to ensure domestic political stability, suppress parliament and the old aristocracy, avoid wars to the utmost, and seek a peaceful environment for domestic economic development. He also participated in trade personally or entrusted agents to participate in trade indirectly, becoming a king with the reputation of "merchant king"in British history. The second chapter is the focus of this paper.Based on the economic laws and relevant historical documents in the period of Edward IV and the content of the economic policies formulated by Edward IV,it is divided into five categories.1)the king's move to increase revenue;2)business policy;3)merchant policy;4)wool and woolen fabric industry policy;5)monetary policy.Edward IV turned a new page in matters of finance and so on.The third chapter mainly analyzes the motivation and influence of Edward IV in formulating these economic policies.Through the analysis of the motivation,we can better understand the economic background of this period.Edward IV's economic policies have produced many positive influences on Britain, but inevitably have the limitations of The Times and individuals. The king banned the export of wool, encouraged the export of woolen cloth, and maintained the policy of high tariff for wool export and low tariff for woolen cloth export since the 14th century, which further maintained and stabilized the trend that woolen cloth export began to exceed wool export in the middle of the 15th century and greatly promoted the development of Britain's "national industry"--woolen cloth industry. In the 15th century,Britain changed its export structure from a exporter of raw materials to a exporter of manufactured goods.Although the dependence on foreign businessmen still existed in this period, the rise of domestic businessmen became a force that could not be ignored and made the competition more and more fierce. In short, this paper focuses on the study of the rise of the British economy, especially the adjustment of economic policies in this process, and believes that the economic policies of Edward IV played an important role in the rise of Britain and the transition to modern times.
