A Report On E-C Translation Of Financial Papers About Portfolio

A portfolio is a combination of bonds,stocks,financial derivatives etc.that an investor or financial institution owns.Its purpose is to reduce risks and increase income from investment.As a branch of finance,the portfolio is of great research value because it is the most common way to manage money and has close relationship with national economic development.This report,based on two papers from Journal of Finance(2017),the official publication of the American Finance Association,discusses the English-Chinese translation methods and strategies of papers on portfolio.This report is divided into four chapters.Chapter 1 is task description,including background,features and significance of source texts.Chapter 2 is the introduction of task process which consists of translation preparation,translation process and quality control.Chapter 3 analyses the translation strategies of papers about portfolio at lexical,syntactic and textual levels from the perspective of skopos theory.This chapter mainly concentrates on the translation of abbreviations,financial terminologies,long sentences and passive sentences as well as translation methods such as addition,omission and conversion.Chapter 4 is the reflection and translation enlightenment of the author in the process of translation practice.This report believes that papers about portfolio are informative texts,thus the communicative purpose of which determines translation strategies.In the process of translation,the translator should comprehensively understand the source text,deeply analyze the linguistic features of texts about portfolio and reasonably use relevant translation strategies and methods,to ensure that the translated texts,in the social and cultural contexts of the target language,produce on its readers the communicative function as same as to that obtained on the readers of the original.
