Selected E-C Translation Of Islamic Finance For Dummies And The Critical Commentary

During the two years from2007to2009, many banks, security companies and other financial firms around the world had a tough time. The subprime mortgage crisis brought a nationwide banking emergency to the U.S.A and then spread to the whole globe. During this crisis, Islamic finance still kept a stable developing space by holding on to its own feature and has become an important part of global financial system. Now, here is a same voice in world calling for the return of the real economy, and everybody would like to know what sets apart the Islamic finance industry from the rest of the financial world. Though Islamic finance has got a leaping development after the subprime crisis happened, there are just a few works related to Islamic finance translated into Chinese. For this reason, this material was chosen to be translated.The original text of the translation is selected from Islamic Finance for Dummies, which is written by Faleel Jamaldeen, DBA and published by John Wiley&Sons, Inc. in2012. The translation practice includes two chapters:Chapter1and Chapter2.This project consists of two parts:the translation and a critical commentary on the difficulties the translator has come across in executing the project. These difficulties appeared and challenged my translation practice including terminology translation, concise expression and cultural differences. To perfect the translation, these difficulties need to be fully understood and appropriately solved. Only in this way can we make the translated text much more readable. Basically, these translation difficulties show up in this project in three levels, i.e. lexical, syntactic and discoursal level.To solve those difficulties, The Skopos theory, one of the main translation approaches proposed by the German school of functionalism, is used as a guidance. Under the guidance of this theory, several translation strategies are applied in three levels, including lexical, syntactical and discoursal level. Specifically, transliteration with note or paraphrasing are frequently used in this project, then, amplification and omission, semantic extension and word conversion can easily to be seen. For a sentence, following its original syntactic order to make the translation process efficient is a priority. But sometimes, a sentence structure needs to be reinvented and a voice needs to be shifted so that a Chinese way of expression can be achieved. Last but not the least, for the whole work, integrity of translation, reasoning, logical sequence and cohesion should be paid attention to.In conclusion, this original text is a kind of informative text, and a number of strategies are used to solve the problems appeared in the translation to make the target text readable.
