With rapid development of globalization,more and more interpreting activities have been carried out.The reporter acted as an interpreter for Nanjing Kimberly Clark Diaper Production Equipment Commissioning project,from the 5th to the 21st of August in 2017.During this project,the reporter did escort interpreting for Mike,the foreign engineer,assisting him with the commissioning of the diaper production machines.Besides,she did interpreting during each handover meeting.The interpreting project belongs to onsite technical interpretation.As a student interpreter,the reporter was faced with great challenges during her interpreting project.Through a careful analysis of the data taken from the onsite interpreting recordings,this report presents three main difficulties that the reporter encountered during the process of this project.The three main difficulties include:information gaps,mental stress,and such linguistic barriers as vocabulary and pronunciation.Drawing on deep reflections and introspection,the reporter explored the causes of the three problems and put forward corresponding solutions.The solutions are divided into three categories,listed as follows.Firstly,the reporter should have beforehand communication with relevant speakers and anticipate information to bridge information gaps.Secondly,she should increase mental capacity and confidence to relieve mental stress;besides,she should have more eye contact and make preparations to reduce anxiety.Thirdly,the reporter is supposed to make preparations for terminology and get familiar with various accents and Nanjing dialect to remove such linguistic barriers as vocabulary and pronunciation.The problems and causes analyzed and the specific methods and strategies put forward in this report not only show insightful reflections and self-study of the reporter,but also can function as a valuable reference for onsite technical researchers and interpreters.
