The North American sinologist Stephen Owen used his poetic language and Western vision to examine Chinese classical poetry and culture from a new perspective. He successively wrote "The Early Tang Poetry","Sheng Tang Poetry","Reminiscence","The Lost House" and "Heshan".A series of interpretations of Chinese classical literature, such as Stones and Chinese Literary Theory, provide a profound analysis of the mode of operation of ancient Chinese cultural power and the mentality of traditional intellectuals, and provide us with a comparative literary vision and possibilities.Sex,He has a high sensitivity to the hidden and deeper connotations hidden behind the literature,so he can restore the original state of Chinese classical poetry, and dig out the deep meaning of the text and the discourse reference. Many scholars at home and abroad have realized the use of his "text reading" method and the contextual restoration of Chinese classical literature,so his research has also emerged. The new critical theory is an important part of modern Western formalism literary theory. Its origins are in the early 20 th century,in the literary criticism of Richards(I A Richards)and Eliot(T.S.Eliot).The new critical theory can be seen in the trace, and then the new critical theory develops to maturity, about the 1940s-60 s,during which time the new critical theory has been the most influential after World War II.Stephen Owen was studied at Yale University in the 1960 s.He received his Ph.D.from Yale University in 1972 and then stayed at the school. At the time,Yale's mainstream thought was a new critical theory, influenced by the environment, and influenced by the literary atmosphere.Stephen Owen's influence on the new critical theory is far-reaching.The article is divided into four parts. The first part introduces the research background, research purpose and significance of the paper, and further introduces the domestic and foreign status, research methods and research ideas of the literature research of Stephen Owen. The second part is mainly based on the ontological study of Chinese literature, taking the interpretation of tang poetry by Stephen Owen as an example to analyze the application of the new criticism theory in the process of the interpretation of tang poetry. The third part analyzes the textual context interpretation of Stephen Owen from three aspects: linguistic ambiguity, fictional text context and context restoration. The fourth part introduces the historical view of literature based on the theory of new criticism.Through the study of Stephen Owen's evaluation of tang poetry, the author finds out Stephen Owen's view of literature history from his academic achievements. The article has studied the works of Stephen Owen 's work and related materials, and has carefully studied the works of relevant sinologists. At the same time,he isconcerned with the research results of Yu Wen's research on Chinese literature.Review a large number of literature, make sufficient research, and combine research methods with various methods, such as text reading, literature search, case analysis and hope to learn new perspectives and new methods of studying Chinese literature from overseas sinologists' research works.Comparing the differences between the literature in the eyes of overseas researchers and the literature in the eyes of Chinese researchers,as well as leading to different reasons, such as ideas, perspectives, languages, etc.Learning Chinese culture from the perspective of foreign sinologists is also unique to tapping the excellent heritage of Chinese literature. The perspective is of great significance to the development of the overall Chinese culture.
