Research On The Poetics Of Joseph Brodsky

Joseph Brodsky(1940-1996),won the Nobel Prize in literature in 1987 for his poems with rich poetic flavor and profound thoughts.Brodsky was one of the best poets of the twentieth century.He wrote not only poetry but also a great deal of prose.His poetry is a kind of literature that transcends the limitation of time and space.His prose,as the supplement and continuation of poetry,contains rich poetic theories and is full of philosophical speculation,which arouses readers' surprise and resonance.By reading Brodsky's essays and poems,this paper sorts out his theoretical texts on poetry criticism and summarizes his specific views on his poetics.This paper explores the social history,ideological and cultural background of Brodsky's creation period,that is,the development of Russian,British and American poetry creation and poetry theory in the 20 th century.This thesis combines the close reading of the text with the research of knowledge background to investigate the uniqueness of Brodsky's poetry theory.This paper divides Brodsky's poetry theory into four parts: theory creation,poetry essence,poetry creation and poetry value.The aim of Brodsky's poetics is: thought is the first essence of poetry,and poetry is the music of thought;Poetry is the highest form of language.More fundamentally,language is the form of thought,and even language itself can be thought.So language is another essence of poetry.It is the poet's duty to touch the limits of language.Brodsky's poetic structure involves both the internal and external laws of poetry.His theoretical starting point is the pursuit of pure beauty of language and his ideal belief in the value of poetry.First of all,Brodsky is a poet.His poetic method and poetic theory are mutually confirmed,and his theory is also directly elucidated in poetry.He discusses poetry in poetry.Secondly,Brodsky is a philosopher,he maintains the tradition of thought,and at the same time defends the modernity and independent value of poetry.His poems have the cross-cultural nature of the east and the west,that is,the sensibility of the east and the Russian,and the dialectic of the west.
