| The occurrence and development of bullying in the youth group has always been the focus of researchers. In recent years, bullying behaviors among adolescents in China has emerged in an endless stream, which has aroused widespread concern in the society. With the popularity of the Internet and the continuous development of information communication technology(ICT),cyberbullying has become another major manifestation of individual bullying behavior beyond traditional bullying.Traditional bullying refers to a subset of aggressive behavior which is defined as being an intentional act or behavior carried out by a group or an individual repeatedly and over time against victim who cannot easily defend him or herself(Olweus,1993).Cyberbullying refers to an aggressive, intentional act carried out by a group or individual using electronic forms of contact(such as mobile phones, computers, etc.),repeatedly and over time against a victim who cannot easily defend him or herself(Smith et al.,2008).The high levels of prevalence of bullying behavior in China, especially after the emergence of the new bullying form of cyberbullying, which has brought many negative effects on the growth and development of adolescents, such as increasing adolescents’ stress, depression and anxiety. In addition, bullying victims may experience high levels absenteeism, academic performance decline, and drop out of school. Therefore,it is very important to explore the influencing factors of traditional bullying and cyberbullying.Through the review of literature on bullying, this research constructed a chain mediating model based on the optimal level of arousal theory, psychological dynamics theory, social cognitive theory, media use and satisfaction theory and general aggression model.Specifically, the purpose of this study was to explore the influence of sensation seeking on bullying of adolescents and its mechanism. In order to test the chain mediating model, this research investigated 750 junior high school students in Wuhan with questionnaire. The results of SPSS20.0 statistical analysis indicated:(1)the relationships between each pair of sensation seeking, boredom experience, antisocial content media exposure and bullying was significantly positive. And sensation seeking, boredom experience as well as antisocial content media exposure were positively correlate with bullying;(2)after controlling for gender and grade, sensation seeking could directly predict the bullying behavior of adolescents. Moreover, sensation seeking could affect adolescents’ bullying through three indirect paths:through the mediating role of boredom experience;through the mediating role of antisocial content media exposure;through the chain mediating role of both boredom experience and antisocial content media exposure. The results of this study helped to reveal the impact of sensation seeking on adolescent traditional bullying, cyberbullying behavior and its mechanism. There were some implications for the development of measures to prevent and intervene adolescents’bullying:adopting different intensity of intervention strategies toward groups with different levels of sensation seeking;schools and families should provide children with a wealth of activities to prevent their stimulating input and experience below the best level;educators should guide adolescents to exposure to the media content that suits their age and psychological characteristics;for adolescent with bullying behavior,we should communicate with them in time, understand their psychological state, and provide corresponding guidance to them.In addition, the negative consequence of bullying behavior should be told in time. |
