This interpreting report is based on the interpreting practice done by the writer(the interpreter)in the project of “2018 Seminar on Urban Infrastructure Development under the Belt and Road Initiative”.This project was sponsored by Ministry of Commerce of PRC,organized by International Cooperation Center of National Development and Reform Commission of PRC,and aimed at promoting the cooperation, communications and cultural exchanges among countries along the Belt and Road. This report tries to analyze the interpreting tasks done by the interpreter in this project.Besides interpreting the Tea Art lecture, the interpreter worked as a coordinator in this seminar as well. The interpreter used Chesterman's translation ethics to solve a series of problems encountered in these tasks.First of all, this report gives a general introduction to the project and the background of the interpreter's key task: the Tea Art lecture.Principles for interpreting are also included in this part. Then,it focuses on the preparations done by the interpreter before the tasks, including collecting background information, building up glossaries, contacting with the clients before the tasks. The interpreter also made some theoretical preparations, that is,studying on Chesterman's translation ethics models. In the next part, the cases are divided into two types: cases in the Tea Art lecture, and cases in escort interpreting. With the help of Chesterman's translation ethics, this report analyzes the interpreting cases, and discusses solutions to the problems: interpreting the expressions with Chinese characteristics,ancient-style citations and the interpreter's unclarified words in lecture interpreting;interpreting as a coordinator and interpreting expressions concerning Chinese policies in escort interpreting. In the end,the interpreter reflects on the clients' feedback and makes self-evaluation as well as future plans. The interpreter solves the problems encountered in the practice successfully with Chesterman's translation ethics.Hopefully, through analyzing the interpreter's own experience and making self-reflections,improvements can be made.It is hoped that this report can provide valuable inspirations for other interpreters.
