A Study On Local Autonomy In Dengxian County During The Period Of The Republic Of China(1929-1949)

The local autonomy of Dengxian county,one of the local autonomy of Western Wan in the 1930 s,appeared during the rural construction boom in the period of the Republic of China.Starting in the spring of 1929,the local autonomy of Dengxian county is under the guidance of the “Self-defence,Self-government and Self-support” theory put forward by Peng Yuting,and is based on the establishment of militia and self-government government,advocated by the self-government leader Ning Xigu.Besides,the policy of self-defence,self-government and self-support is its main content.Over the years,there have been few studies on the local autonomy of Dengxian county,so this study aims to change that.This paper first introduces the social environment before Dengxian county obtained autonomy and analyzes the origin of the local autonomy in Dengxian county.Secondly,it expounds the background of Dengxian county autonomy from five aspects: Sun Yat-sen's thought of autonomy,the Kuomintang's advocacy of county autonomy,Western Wan local autonomy system,Peng yuting's thought of local autonomy and Ning xigu's leadership of local autonomy.Guided by Peng Yuting's "Three principles of Self-defense,Self-government and Self-support",the autonomy of Dengxian County has its own features based on Dengxian County's social environment.Thirdly,the paper summarizes the practice of Dengxian county local autonomy from three aspects,namely,self-defence,self-government and self-support.What follows next is an explanation of the rise and fall of various forces based on three aspects,namely the dispute between the leaders of self-government,the relationship between the communist party and the local self-government faction of Dengxian county,and the relationship between the Kuomintang and the local self-government of Dengxian county.Last but not least,the paper makes some comments on the Dengxian county local autonomy.
