The textbook is a greatly important resource in teaching.The English Curriculum Standard for Compulsory Education(2011)has proposed that in English teaching,for one thing,teachers are supposed to use textbooks reasonably and effectively;for another,teachers should fully expand and utilize other curriculum resources while using textbooks creatively.It is the intrinsic requirement of textbooks and teachers stated in the New Curriculum Standards,which is also the objective requirement for English teachers to redevelop textbooks in order to adapt to the real teaching situation.By adopting methods of questionnaires,interviews and class observation,the thesis mainly studied the awareness,behavior and current situation of the“redevelopment” of junior middle school English textbooks in Handan.Based on the problems found in the research,suggestions for the textbook redevelopment have been analyzed and summarized to facilitate teachers finding their correct roles in textbook using and teaching as well as to provide theoretical and practical guidance for junior middle school English teachers in Handan.Research instruments in this thesis include questionnaires,interviews and class observations,which are closely related to the textbook redevelopment.The questionnaires were distributed to teachers and students and relevant information was collected at the beginning.At the same time,the class observation originated from teaching by six English teachers.In this way,the author found out the methods,problems and suggestions in the textbook redevelopment for teachers in Lingyun Middle School of Handan.Six teachers were interviewed to investigate the problems in the textbook redevelopment.The specific research questions are as follows:(1)What’s the current situation of English teachers’ textbook redevelopment in junior high schools?(2)What are the problems existing in teachers’ specific implementations of textbook redevelopment ?(3)Based on the research results,what are the pedagogical implications for English teachers to tackle the problems?The research mainly analyzed problems in textbook “redevelopment” by teachers,including teachers’ awareness,attitudes and problems in the practice mentioned above.The results showed that:(1)Teachers need to further strengthen their awareness of the English textbook “redevelopment”.Some teachers have known this process,but they should better deepen their understandings of it.(2)Teachers are expected to furtherconduct the English textbook “redevelopment” intensively.Under the influence of exam-oriented education,teachers ought to pay close attention to students’ desire despite of the proper recognition of “redevelopment”.(3)Teachers are sure to encounter numerous problems in the “redevelopment” of textbooks,such as whether the textbook content is too plenty or whether adjustments need to be made among the units in textbooks.To solve the above problems,the thesis has raised specific suggestions,guidance and strategies for the textbook “redevelopment” in the following two perspectives: teacher and teaching management.The specific suggestions are as follows:(1)Correctly understanding the textbook redevelopment.(2)Scientifically conducting the textbook redevelopment.(3)Formulating the policy of training and expanding channels.
