This thesis is a translation report on the study of “Gendered Perspectives on Men's Changing Familial Roles in Postwar England”,co-authored by British women scholars Angela Davis and Laura King.Concentrating on three themes: family planning and conception;pregnancy and childbirth and infant care, this translation report reviews men's role in British family from different gender's perspectives in different periods. All the contents in the original text are based on the oral history materials and they are of great reliabilities.Besides,as there are few researches about men's familial role in China, this thesis,to some degree, makes a supplement in this area. The original text is categorized as an informative text according to Reiss' s text typology. The requirement of translating informative text is to deliver information and express facts. Therefore, taking the characteristics of the informative text and previous translation practice into consideration, the translator decides to use the contrast between English and Chinese to translate the original text. There are great differences between English and Chinese in the aspects of grammar, expression ways and thinking modes,so basing the three aspects' differences, the translator makes contrasts between English and Chinese in hypotactic and paratactic, static and dynamic, indirect and direct, substitutive and repetitive, grammar and thinking ways to make a good translation version in line with the Chinese standards. Finally, the translator summarizes some problems and experience during the translation process and gains a new acknowledgement and comprehension of the translation theory. It is hoped that translator could improve translation ability and other people could benefit from this practice.
