This translation report is based on the translation practice of Drone Regulations and Fourth Amendment Rights:The Interaction of State Drone Statutes and the Reasonable Expectation of Privacy which was written by Taly G.Matiteyahu,a law professor at Columbia University. The scholarly paper discusses how American state drone statutes inform the Supreme Court's interpretation of the Fourth Amendment and the interaction of drones' use and citizens' privacy protection.Under the guidance of Nida's functional equivalence theory, this report explores the translation methods and skills of legal English. In translation process, the author starts with the four aspects of functional equivalence theory, namely lexical equivalence, syntactic equivalence, textual equivalence and stylistic equivalence, and then goes deeply into the use of some translation skills, such as transliteration, addition, deletion, voice conversion and so on,to understand the source text thoroughly. The author hopes this report can provide a reference for other legal translation learners.Besides,it is expected to arouse people's attention on privacy protection. In addition to introduction and conclusion, this report highlights task description, task process, case analysis and summary.Task description mainly describes features of the source text, task background, objectives and significance of the task.Task process includes preparation, time arrangements and quality control.Case analysis is the key part of this report, which analyses some specific cases from lexical level, syntactic level and discourse level in the perspective of Nida's functional equivalence theory. In the part of sumlary, translation reflections and problems to be solved are put forward.
