With the development of information age,the Internet has become extraordinarily popular with more users starting surfing the Internet at a very young age.As mobile phones are available to people, users can get access to applications, the big data platform and even the upcoming 5th generation wireless systems. However, data security and privacy issues for mobile applications have also been exposed to the public. If there are problems of data leakage, data tampering and data thefts, negative impacts and threats will affect individuals, the society or the whole nation. In consequence,we need to carry out researches and exchanges on data protections and privacy by virtue of high-quality translation.Since data security and privacy are not only related to law,but also to computer science,it is more difficult to translate the terminologies in the report than those of the general materials. The analysis of this practice report comes from the EU report Privacy and Data Protection in Mobile Applications, the translator translated it from the original English version to the Chinese version. The translation report mainly has five chapters: the first chapter introduces the research background, significance;the second chapter describes how to make pre-translation preparation including selecting a source text and translation tools, introducing functional equivalence theory and translation strategies,as well as establishing a term-base;the third chapter makes strategic analysis on lexical and syntactic level, which is a leading part of the whole report;the fourth chapter is about the after-translation issues including self-checking and proofreading by others;the fifth chapter makes conclusions on the major findings and reflections.Among the five chapters, the case study is the key part, which mainly discusses the practice of Nida's functional equivalence theory, translation strategies during the translation process. To guarantee the accuracy and specialty of language, the translator deals with general words and terms, long and complicated sentences, attributive clauses and passive voice. This practical report makes a detailed case analysis and summary of the problems encountered in the process of translation, which is expected to be of certain referential significance for the future English translation of legal texts.
