After the frontier crisis in the 1860s and 1870s,the Qing Dynasty's subordinate countries have been controlled by Western powers since ancient times. In view of the overthrow of the past, the Qing court decided to maintain the Sino-Korean suzerain-vassal relationship in danger by guiding and assisting the enlightenment movement which had been carried out independently by Korea, the Kingdom most closely related to itself. On the one hand, the guidance helps the DPRK to establish modern trade and diplomatic relations with other European and American countries, such as the United States,Britain,Germany and France, which have no territorial ambitions towards the DPRK.The aim is to create a balanced environment on the Korean Peninsula and resist the coveting of the DPRK by Japan and Russia with the help of the forces of the above-mentioned countries. On the other hand,it imitates the mode of the westernization movement being carried out by China itself, guides and helps North Korea to develop its advantages and eliminate its disadvantages, and helps North Korea to open up the process of military and economic modernization,so as to promote its self-reliance and self-reliance,avoid being annexed by other countries, and can effectively play the role of shielding the East China Sea of the Qing Dynasty. However,in practice,a series of measures taken by the Qing Dynasty to help the DPRK not only failed to make the DPRK prosperous and strong day by day,but also made the DPRK more and more dissatisfied with the Qing Dynasty and hoped to get rid of the relationship between the two countries and achieve national independence. Why the Qing Dynasty's sincere help and devotion to the DPRK would have the opposite effect, leading to the discontent of the DPRK and the alienation of the suzerain-vassal relationship between the DPRK and the DPRK.
