| English learning includes four basic skills,listening,speaking,reading and writing,and how to write a good article is playing an increasingly important role in people’s daily life.Junior middle school is an important stage to develop students’ English writing ability,however,after many years of study,junior middle school students’ performance is not very good.The author looks up relevant literature and finds that in the study of English writing,there are more senior middle schools and colleges than junior middle schools,more verbs and fewer adjectives.Since Professor Gui Shichun and Yang Huizhong established Chinese Learners English Corpus,many domestic scholars have used the method of corpus to study Chinese learners’ English vocabulary from different angles.Based on the theory of error analysis,the author puts forward two research questions:(1)What are the common errors in the use of adjectives in English writing?(2)What are the causes of these errors?In order to solve these two problems,the study refers to Chinese Learners English Corpus,takes three classes of Grade two in Luxiang Middle School as research subject,a total of 150 compositions are collected to build a small corpus,analysis of adjective errors by corpus retrieval software Ant Conc3.2.1w.Through the error analysis of adjectives,questionnaires and interviews,the author has the following findings:(1)In all adjective categories,the function of adjectives in sentences,types of adjectives,the comparative and superlative degrees of adjectives,the inauthentic expression of adjectives have higher error rate.(2)As junior middle school students are still in the early stages of English learning,they will be affected by interlingual transfer.The influence of intra-language transfer is mainly reflected in the ignorance of rule restrictions,incomplete application of rules,followed by over-generalization.Finally,according to research results,the author puts forward four suggestions on how to improve junior middle school students’ English writing ability.They are:(1)attach importance to the teaching of lexical chunks about adjectives.(2)create language environment to understand the use of adjectives.(3)teach the use of adjectives with the help of modern technology.(4)update the mode of composition correction.To some extent,this thesis enriches the research of corpus linguistics,and it is also helpful for students to study and train accordingly,so as to improve their English writing level gradually. |
