The unified teaching has been the mainstream classroom-teaching model in China's elementary and secondary schools,teaching students with unified teaching materials and evaluating students by using a unified standard.The teaching model was built on the basis of our large population.However,serious drawbacks arose during the long-term teaching practice.Firstly,traditional elite-oriented education failed to realize its original intention,neglecting individual development of students.Secondly,against the background of exam-oriented education,too much emphasis on grades result in too much emphasis on the content relevant to examinations but little attention to students'advantages and potential.Recently,with the education reforms and comprehensive quality of students on the rise,differentiated instruction has come into being,becoming the important trend of classroom instruction in Chinese elementary and secondary education.The course reform of the foundation education outline(trial version)points out that the teacher should respect the dignity of students,focus on individual difference and satisfy different students' needs,creating a harmonious environment in teaching,which can encourage learners to join in,stimulate the enthusiasm of students and cultivate students' ability and make every student develop to the full.English reading accounts for a large proportion in senior English teaching and directly affects the teaching effect of English Class to a great extent.On the other hand,students differ in English reading and so in senior English teaching,the teacher should respect the student's individuality and focus on the difference among students.Based on such teaching present condition,this paper explores high school English reading teaching on the basis of Constructive-Learning Theory,Multiple Intelligence Theory,Bloom's Taxonomy and Optimum Theory and discuss the ways of applying differentiated teaching,hoping to provide guidance for English language teaching.Through half-a-year practice,by comparing controlled classes and experimental classes and the pre-test and post-test,the result shows that the differentiated teaching can improve students' English learning interest and motivation effectively and also have a positive effect on students' grade,which means it is feasible to practise the differentiated teaching to senior English reading teaching.
