| STARTALK is a language education program which seeks to expand the teaching of strategically important languages in the United States.After years of development,it has formed a set of theoretical system and behavioral guidelines,and also has an important impact on the training model of teachers in other disciplines.By personally participating in the training process,this paper analyses a short-term Chinese teacher training program held by W University in the summer of 2018.The first chapter introduces the language policy and the Startalk project in the United States,as well as the significance of this research.It is found that the current domestic research focuses on the case analysis of the Startalk project,the introduction and enlightenment of the Startalk project,and the teaching methods used in the Startalk project.Chapter 2 introduces the program in W University from the perspective of trainees,including the training criteria,trainees,curriculum settings,training objectives,etc.It also records in detail the online training curriculum settings of W University’s teacher training program,as well as the micro-teaching,cooperative teaching,independent teaching and other rounds of practical teaching in off-line training.Chapter 3 evaluates the training project through a case study,and analyses its successful experience and shortcomings.The results show that Startalk program has a variety of training methods,achieves a win-win situation between teacher project and student project,establishes a mature network training platform for teachers.At the same time,there are some disadvantages such as lack of strict language regulations,limitations of classroom introduction by Total Physical Response method,and inadequate training of multimedia teaching methods.Chapter 4 combines the authors lecture records during the internship period and the observation of the Startalk Teacher Training Project,with specific examples,puts forward how to strengthen the curriculum practicality and optimize the curriculum structure for Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages in China;how to improve the training content,training methods and training evaluation for short-term Chinese teacher training;how to improve the classroom teaching skills for Chinese teachers;and enlightenment of how to construct our country’s safety language project.The last chapter summarizes the whole paper,explains what work this paper has done and the shortcomings,and puts forward some ideas for the possible follow-up research. |
