A Translation Report On Chinese Feature Stories Under The Guidance Of Catford's Translation Shifts Theory

As the communication with foreign countries in economy,politics and culture has become more frequent and profound than ever,China attaches importance to the work of foreign publicity,aiming at establishing a good international image and promoting cultural communication.Introducing the daily life of ordinary Chinese people is an important part of the foreign publicity.Eight feature stories were selected from China's mainstream media describing the touching stories of the ordinary Chinese from different walks of life and translated into English to introduce the foreigners the daily life of the Chinese,in order to provide references for more translation of the feature stories in the future.Catford's translation shifts theory was adopted to systematically analyze the translation.Under the guidance of Catford's translation shifts theory,the common types of shifts in Chinese and English features stories' translation were concluded and explained.The application of level shifts and category shifts were analyzed with examples.Finally,the author concluded the experience gained in the translation process,and put forward suggestions for future translation of the feature stories.
