The Dissemination And Acceptance Of Susan Bassnett's Views On Comparative Literature In China

Susan Bassnett is a famous comparatist,her views on the crisis of Comparative Literature and the "cultural turn" of it have exerted various influences on the field of Comparative Literature in China.Based on the academic history of Chinese comparative literature and the theory and method of cross-cultural studies,,this paper discusses the acceptance of Susan Bassnett's views on Comparative Literature from three aspects.The first part is the discussion about Susan Bassnett's theory of crisis in comparative literature.It explores the relationship between the translation turn in Comparative Literature and the Medio-transtatology,and probes into the disciplinary process of Chinese comparative literature.The second part is the discussion about how Susan Bassnett's views of "cultural translation" link to the "cultural turn" of Chinese comparative literature.Then,it analyses the "literariness" of Comparative Literature under the upsurge of Cultural Studies.Finally,by examining Susan Bassnett's developing views of Comparative Literature,the dissemination and acceptance process of Susan Bassnett's views of Comparative Literature in China is reviewed,and the phenomenon of compulsory interpretation which is prone to occur in the process of traveling theory is consciously alerted.The possible problems in introducing western academic viewpoints into Chinese comparative literature are deeply considered,and on this basis,the crisis of Comparative Literature is reconsidered.
