Liao Jichun is the first-generation oil painter in Taiwan.He has a great guiding significance for the development of Taiwan’s oil painting community.At the same time,as an art educator,he has made great contribution to the cultivation of the new generation of the artistic youth in Taiwan.Liao Jichun’s paintings were influenced by the Japanese Pleinairism in his early years.After returning to Taiwan,he was influenced by Umebara Ryosaburo Sburo,and combined with the local geographic features,his artistic style tends to be Fauvism.During his later years,the painting language which is between the abstract and semi-abstract,gradually became abstract,and finally formed into a unique artistic appearance.What‘s more,due to the rise of the art market,Liao Jichun‘s works have also attracted much attention in Mainland.Among the painters of Mainland,there were manuscripts of his work.The main purpose of this thesis is to study the formal language of Liao Jichun’s oil paintings,and to sort out internal and external factors of the transformation of formal language in Liao Jichun’s works.This thesis is divided into early,middle and late stages.Through enumerating the formal language of his works of three stages and comparative study,from the perspective of historical development,the thesis expounds the factors that influence the evolution of Liao Jichun‘s creative style,and combines the ancient Chinese theory of calligraphy and painting to analyze the layout,lines,characteristics of the combination of both Chinese and Western Performance,and the Chinese spirit in Liao Jichun‘s works.
