With the acceleration of globalization,global tourism develops rapidly,which not only promotes economic development but also strengthens international communication.As an important medium for spreading tourist information,tourist texts should be paid much attention to,and much more emphasis ought to be placed on the translation of them.Communicative translation,put forward by Peter Newmark,tries to produce on its readers an effect as close as possible to that obtained on the readers of the original,playing an essential role in guiding the translation of tourist texts.Under the guidance of communicative translation,the author has translated part of the second chapter of A Humanistic Tour of China—Qingdao,hoping to effectively convey relevant tourist information to readers so as to attract them to travel to Qingdao and therefore promote its tourism.First of all,the author briefly introduces the content of the source text and its characteristics at the linguistic and the cultural levels,and then summarizes the translation requirements.Second,the author provides a specific description of the translation process,including preparations before translation,the specific translation process and proofreading.Third,the author briefly introduces communicative translation and its applicability to the translation of tourist texts.Fourth,case study is carried out through taking examples from the source text.The report holds that in order to convey relevant tourist information in an effective way and arouse readers' interest,translators can flexibly adopttranslation methods so that both the language and the content of the translation can be readily understood and accepted by target readers,and a better effect of communication can be achieved.To be specific,names of scenic spots are translated through literal translation and transliteration plus literal translation;culture-loaded words are translated through amplification and omission;for sentences of scenery description,literal translation,free translation and paraphrase are adopted;for poems and sentences in historical records,paraphrase and omission are used.Finally,the author summarizes the report,hoping to provide some reference for those who translate tourist texts.
