| Chinese volunteer teachers in New Zealand were chosen as the research subject to show their cross-cultural adaptation in the New Zealand teaching environment.Questionnaire and interviews were used to study volunteers in the middle term covering three aspects: social and cultural adaptation, psychological adaptation and job adaptation.Preliminary analysis and discussion were studied in volunteer cross-cultural adaptation in New Zealand combined with the lifestyle and teaching situations, with some suggestions that were advised on training. The qualitative analysis of this paper shows that most of the volunteers are able to deal with interpersonal relationships in a new environment, but the adaptation of diet, customs and social support needs to be strengthened. And the psychological state of the volunteers is normal during the questionnaires, the volunteers are in good condition for the teachers, students and schools. The period of frustration of cross-cultural adaptation theory does not apply to Chinese volunteer teachers in New Zealand,it shows the frustration period of volunteers is within 1-3 months after they arrived. The conclusion has been confirmed again in the interview.Quantitative analysis shows that there is a tendency of cross-cultural adaptation among volunteers. However,in particular, fluency of English and overseas experience, these two aspects of individual differences have a great influence on cross-cultural adaptation. The results shows that the 6 types of adaptation are a positive correlation, among which the correlation between interpersonal relationship and psychological is the strongest.Every two groups that includes a strong correlation all have psychological adaptation. The research suggests psychological adaptation occupies an important position in the cross-cultural adaptation.Good psychological adaptation will help volunteers to better adapt in the local conditions and complete teaching work. Therefore, the future training should pay more attention to the psychological conditions of volunteers,in order to contribute to the promotion of Chinese international education and Chinese culture. |
